Planning and Leading a Social Justice Event
This event will be planned and led by the entire confirmation class.
I. The first step is to figure out what our motivation is for doing social justice.
What bible stories inform our desires to do justice?
What world events or issues make us feel like we want to do something?
What does our faith community teach us about issues of justice?
II. Decide on a particular justice issue you want to address
III. Find out what is already being done in our community to address this issue.
IV. Contact the organizations already working on this issue and find out where there are gaps.
V. Interview someone experiencing this issue to see what support would be most helpful
VI. Decide on the type of event you would like to plan. ie: fundraiser, materials drive, informational meeting, etc.
VII. Set a date and an agenda for the event
VIII. Publicize and plan the event
IX. Lead the event
X. Discuss what went well, what you might do differently next time, and what you learned by doing this. Document your discussion so others can benefit from your learning.
